BVB captain? Zorc commits itself

Michael Zorc has assured that Marco Reus will remain captain even after the Hummels return. In addition, BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke took stock and swore loyalty to Borussia. There is also new information about a potential new member.

Even after Mats Hummels’ return, Marco Reus will remain captain of Borussia Dortmund. Sports director Michael Zorc announced this to the kicker: “Marco Reus is our captain and last season’s player for me. There’s no reason to change anything about it.”

Reus has been captain of the ship for a year. Hummels led the BVB until its move to Munich in 2016 with the bandage on the field. The central defender will continue to play a leading role in the future, but he will not become captain.

On Friday Hans-Joachim Watzke celebrates his 60th birthday. On this occasion he spoke about his future in an interview with the newspapers of the Funken media group: “I’m more of a brooding type anyway, so I do everything as always. I live in the now. But I know, and I’ve known for a long time, that I’m a Sunday child. I have a great family and some really close friendships. And health – that’s what it is.”

He can definitely not imagine working for another association. “I’d turn down a double pay offer from any club in the world because all I want is Borussia Dortmund.” In 2005 he saved BVB from insolvency, which is why nothing could shake him so quickly.

Watzke’s contract with Schwarz-Gelb runs until 2022. There is no plan for the subsequent period: “It is still far too early for me to deal with the subject. I won’t start until 2021.”

A month ago, Bild and kicker reported an agreement between FC Barcelona defender Mateu Morey and BVB. Now there is an update: According to a report by Gianluca di Marzio, the Spaniard will sign a five-year contract with the Borussians.

As the 19-year-old’s contract with the Catalans expires, the transfer would be free of charge. Morey had moved to Barcelona in 2015, but had not yet been used by the pros due to a serious knee injury.
