The coronavirus holds the entire globe in a stranglehold. Even professional soccer is affected by the far-reaching protective measures. Better late than never! At shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, the DFL cancelled the entire 26th matchday of the Bundesliga. In the 2nd Bundesliga, too, the ball will rest for the time being. The DFL’s statement in its entirety:
In view of today’s dynamics with new corona infections and corresponding suspected cases directly related to the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga, the executive board of the DFL German Soccer League has decided at short notice to postpone the 26th matchday, which originally began today, in both leagues. In addition, the committee will recommend, as planned, that the general meeting of professional clubs, which will be held next Monday, continue the suspension of match operations until 2 April – i.e. including the international match break.
