The ink is dry, the transfer finally perfect: 2014 World Champion Mats Hummels is officially again a player of runner-up Borussia Dortmund. As the BVB announced on Friday, the 30-year-old defender signed his contract until 2022 after passing the medical check.

Bayern Munich and Borussia had already agreed on 19 June. Because Hummels was on vacation, only the last formalities had to be clarified.

The redemption sum, including performance-related bonus payments, amounts to 38 million euros. In 2016, after eight and a half years in Dortmund, the ex-national player returned to Munich for 35 million euros, where he had already played from 1995 to January 2008. His contract in Munich was dated until 2021.

Hummels is the fourth BVB major purchase. Previously, Borussia had already signed the international players Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen) and Nico Schulz (TSG Hoffenheim) as well as the Belgian Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Mönchengladbach) for a total of 76 million euros.
