96-professional Schwegler moves to Australia

Midfielder Pirmin Schwegler leaves Bundesliga relegator Hannover 96 and moves to Australia. The 32-year-old will in future play for the Western Sydney Wanderers, who will be coached by the German European 96 Champion Markus Babbel.

“For me, an opportunity has arisen to fulfill a life’s dream. I got a chance to live in Australia for a while. For my wife and me it is a dream and an opportunity that you don’t know if she will come back again,” Schwegler said.

“Nevertheless, the decision – especially in this difficult situation – was anything but easy for me and I struggled with myself for a very long time, because Hannover 96 has grown very close to my heart in the two years here. Of course, I would have liked to leave the club as a first division team. I’m sure the club will get back on its feet and the road will lead to the first league again. I’ll follow it from afar – and I’ll cheer for it.”

Hanover had engaged the Swiss 2017 free of charge from TSG Hoffenheim.
