30 million! Bremen Arena has a new name

Published on

For ten years Werder Bremen has sold the name of its home venue to a Fellbach real estate company. From 1 July, the Arena am Osterdeich will officially be called “wohninvest WESERSTADION”. This was announced by the Hanseatic League on Thursday.

The North Germans collect three million euros annually for this controversial deal. “This cooperation gives us the financial leeway to further develop our unique home and not least our club for competition with the best clubs in Germany,” said Klaus Filbry, Chairman of the Werder Management Board.

From 2007 to 2017, EWE AG had been a stadium partner of the Liga-Achten, but the contract with the energy supplier from Oldenburg did not include the naming rights. After the contract expired two years ago, SV Werder had to close the financing gap itself.

Harald Panzer, Managing Director of Wohninvest, commented on the agreement: “Werder has built this stadium into one of the most beautiful in Germany over the past decades with an incredible feat of strength. We want to help secure this achievement now.”
