First German test match opponent on 2 June

When the German national team meets Denmark in Innsbruck on 2 June in its first preparation match for EURO 2020 (11 June to 11 July), the German national players will come up against a number of familiar faces from the Bundesliga. Danish national coach Kasper Hjulmand has named Thomas Delaney (Borussia Dortmund), Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig), Robert Skov (1899 Hoffenheim) and goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow, who is still on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt to FC Schalke 04, to his 26-man provisional squad.
In addition, there are other players who have Bundesliga experience. For example, captain Simon Kjaer (formerly of VfL Wolfsburg), Andreas Christensen (formerly of Gladbach), Jannik Vestergaard (formerly of Hoffenheim, Bremen and Gladbach), Jonas Lössl (formerly of Mainz) or Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg (formerly of Bayern, Schalke and Augsburg). And let’s not forget national coach Hjulmand, who once coached 1. FSV Mainz.
Besides Kjaer, the squad is led by Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel and Inter director Christian Eriksen. Only three players are employed in the domestic league: Nicolai Boilesen and Jonas Wind at FC Copenhagen, Lössl at FC Midtjylland. In contrast, no player was called up from champions Brøndby IF.
Denmark qualified for the pan-European title matches as runners-up in Group D. There, Denmark will face Finland (12 June; 6 pm), Belgium (17 June; 6 pm) and Russia (21 June; 9 pm) in the preliminary round Group B. “Danish Dynamite” is currently ranked tenth in the current FIFA world rankings, two places ahead of the German team.
