Juventus Turin have apparently reached an agreement with Chelsea FC to change coach Maurizio Sarri to the reigning Italian champions. That’s what Sky Italia reports late Thursday night.
According to the TV station, Sarri will be presented in the coming days as the successor to Massimiliano Allegri on the coach’s chair of the old lady. According to Sky, Sarri signs a three-year contract.
Sky Italia thus confirms information from Goal and SOCCERSCORE that Sarri had long agreed with Juventus on a commitment for the coming season.
Despite an at times unstable, but ultimately successful debut season in the Blues, with a secure qualification for the Champions League and winning the Europa League, and despite a contract that ran until 2021, Sarri’s premature departure from Chelsea had been in the offing for weeks.
According to British and Italian media reports, Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaya is said to have informed him by the end of May that he intends to return to Italy.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea had waited with approval for a move to Juve until Frank Lampard – coach at Derby County – received clearance to replace Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
According to information from Goal and SPOX, the Blues club management has met with Lampard in recent days to negotiate a possible employment. According to Sky, the deal has already been finalized.
Recently, however, the Bild-Zeitung reported that former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick was also on a candidate shortlist for the blues.
Besides Lampard, Ajax coach Erik ten Hag was also a candidate for the coaching position. However, the Dutchman was reluctant to enter into any contractual talks due to the imminent transfer ban that will come into effect at Chelsea next season.
