The return of Gianluigi Buffon to Juventus Turin is perfect. As the old lady announced on Thursday, the keeper receives a one-year contract. According to his advisor, the 41-year-old had previously cancelled several Premier League clubs to return to his heart’s content.
So said consultant Silvano Martina to the Daily Mail: “He had a lot of offers, especially from the Premier League and other big teams.” However, the Italian did not want to reveal exactly who these were. “I don’t give names, it’s not my style, but I think you have no problems understanding it,” says Martina.
According to Buffons’ advisor, cancellations of English clubs are mainly for personal reasons. “Buffon has always made decisions with his heart and never for the money.”
As an explanation he cited a special comparison: “One can compare his return home with that of a husband who after a fling cannot wait to finally embrace his wife again.”
Buffon moved last year from the Alte Dame to Paris Saint-Germain. Martina continues to regard this change as understandable. “I don’t think it was treason to go to PSG. He didn’t stay in Italy,” said the former goalkeeper.
With his move to Juventus, Buffon returns to Italy after only one year in France. In 2001, the 2006 World Champion came to Juventus from AC Parma for around 53 million euros and spent 17 years with the Italian champions. He won a total of nine Scudetti and remained loyal to Juve even after the forced relegation to Serie B.
