Champions League

This year’s Champions League final is to be moved from Istanbul to another location because of the Corona pandemic, according to information from the “New York Times”. The newspaper cited an unnamed person familiar with the event as the source of the report. A spokesperson for the European Football Union (UEFA), when asked by the newspaper, said that a number of options were being examined, but no decision had been made yet. A working group with representatives of leagues and clubs discussed dates and formats so that the current Champions League season could still be concluded.

A decision will be taken after a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee scheduled for 17 June, and UEFA’s discussions with the responsible parties in Istanbul should be concluded next week. The Turkish metropolis could therefore be given the opportunity to take a decision at a later date.
