Primera Division: Neymar wants to go back to Barca: 5 questions about possible transfer

A return from Neymar to FC Barcelona is no longer out of the question. The club has confirmed the rumors: Neymar wants to go back. But is the transfer even possible? What would the change mean for Barca, what for Paris Saint-Germain? And what happened to the Brazilian’s career? SOCCERSCORE and Goal answer the most important questions.

Neymar moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 after four years at FC Barcelona. At the end of May this year, the Catalan radio station RAC1 suddenly reported that Barcelona was working on a return of the Brazilian.

In Barcelona, no day has passed since the departure of Neymar on which the 27-year-old did not appear in any form in the local media. Thus the rumor was actually quickly dismissed again. It was PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi who really opened the door in an interview with France Football.

“Players will be held even more accountable than before. That must change completely. You’re gonna have to do more, have to work more. You’re not here to enjoy yourself. And if they don’t agree, the doors are open. Ciao! I don’t want these star airs here any more”, he said and let the rumours flare up with it.

Since then, the front pages of Sport and Mundo Deportivo have been firmly in the hands of Neymar rumours. FC Barcelona lacked a statement until Thursday, but then Vice-President Jordi Cardoner confirmed the Brazilian’s wish: “He wants to return, they’ll see if an agreement is possible”.

He did not give reasons for Neymar’s wish to change. The rumours suggest that the player is unhappy in France and wants to return. Meanwhile, the reports even go so far that Neymar is accused of considering going on strike from 8 July. The currently injured offensive player would not be competing at the start of training and the upcoming medical examinations, but would insist on a clearance if he had not received it by then.

Catalan reporters are well known for taking a sip too much from the Porro. But the Neymar rumours of the last few weeks had, as we now know, a true core.
