Looking back, striker Romelu Lukaku is happy not to have landed at Juventus Turin in the summer of 2014. “Fortunately, I didn’t change,” the Manchester United striker told Sky Italia. Instead of playing in Serie A, his former club Chelsea sold him to Everton FC.
“Somehow it didn’t feel right, something didn’t convince me,” the striker admitted. “The next day, Conte left Juventus. Although I think Allegri is a fantastic coach, I decided to switch to Everton FC. It turned out to be a good choice.” At Everton, he became one of the best Premier League strikers, scoring 25 goals in his last season at Toffees in 37 games.
Although the Belgian international refused to switch to Serie A 2014, this could still happen after the fact: The 25-year-old continued to admit that an engagement in Serie A would be a dream. “Sooner or later I’d like to play there, although I’m currently focusing on Manchester United.” Lukaku’s younger brother, Jordan, has been playing in the Italian league with Lazio Rome for several years.
The brawny attacker has a contract with United until 2022, but under the new coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the team will be rebuilt this summer. A farewell to Lukaku would not be unlikely. Lukaku’s advisor Federico Pastorello does not rule out any of the big leagues for a change: “He also sees himself in LaLiga at some point. The Bundesliga is certainly also a very good league,” said Pastorello Sky Sports UK.
Inter Milan in particular is a probable transfer destination: the possible departure of Mauro Icardi could leave a gap in the Milan storm. Consultant Pastorello is also said to have good relations with the Serie A third. According to the Telegraph, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern Munich are also customers in addition to Inter.
Lukaku was loaned by Chelsea FC to Everton FC in the 2013/2014 season and then wanted to leave London. Instead of a change to the Italian record champion, he ended up at FC Everton, where he attracted attention with a total of 87 goals. In the summer of 2017, he then moved to the Premier League rivals Manchester United, then with Jose Mourinho as coach.
