The dream lives! Frankfurt’s Eintracht have won against Benfica Lisbon with a strong performance of will and are now in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The word most frequently used afterwards was “madness” coupled with the adjective “indescribable”. It was full-body goose bumps.
SOCCERSCORE has collected all the votes and reactions for the quarter-final return match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica Lisbon.
Fredi Bobic (Sports Director Eintracht Frankfurt): “It is unbelievable, this pure joy from all sides. For God’s sake, a lot will happen here today.”
Sebastian Rode (goal scorer Eintracht Frankfurt): “The whole team did an excellent job. The fans pushed us incredibly.”
Adi Hütter (coach Eintracht Frankfurt): “We’ve had a fantastic European League evening, we’ve seen a team that has shown from the start that they want to reach the semi-finals. This is an experience you won’t forget for a long time, a very special day for the club and also for me. It makes me very proud to train this team. At 1:0 we had the necessary luck on our side, but in the sum this victory is not a stolen victory. Benfica brought in all the offensive power in the end, but we continued to defend very well. It was a perfect evening for us overall.”
Danny da Costa (Eintracht Frankfurt) at DAZN …
… about his feelings after the final whistle: “I can’t really believe it yet. What we have achieved as a team today is absolute madness. It’s indescribable what an evening we’ve had tonight.”
… about the game: “It was an intense game from the beginning. We needed an almost perfect game in which we didn’t let anything burn in the back and took our chances in the front. We’ve already seen in the first leg that Benfica is a team of incredible quality and that it’s going to be particularly difficult today was clear to all of us. The way we’ve dealt with it in the end, it’s just madness. When the game was whistled off, I thought I needed an oxygen tent first.”
… to the semi-final against Chelsea: “Basically every opponent is the same. But I have to admit that I looked up for a moment and if I wasn’t mistaken, Chelsea will be in the semi-finals now.”
