Voices – Klopp: “This is for my family”

Champions League: Voices - Klopp: "This is for my family"

Jürgen Klopp finds no words after the victory of FC Liverpool over Tottenham Hotspur and dedicates the victory to his family. Joel Matip wants to turn night into day – and everyone agrees. The game wasn’t really high class.

SOCCERSCORE has collected the voices of Sky, BT Sport and DAZN.

Jürgen Klopp (coach FC Liverpool): “Unbelievable. What these guys did all season, how intense it was. It wasn’t Tottenham’s best game, not even Liverpool’s. But we won, we scored two goals and had a sensational goalkeeper. I have no words, I am speechless. I was in seven finals, lost all of them. This is for my family. They’re my lifeline, they suffer more than I do when it doesn’t work. Have you ever seen a team like this fight without fuel in the tank? It’s the best night of our professional life. It took a while, it’s important for our development, now we can move on. The owners never put any pressure on us. I’m usually half drunk 20 minutes after the game, but so far I’ve only had water.”

Mohamed Salah (FC Liverpool): “Now everyone is happy, I am happy to have played the second final in a row – and finally for 90 minutes. Everyone gave their best today, it wasn’t great individual performances today, but the whole team was incredible. We’ll see what happens with the VAR next season, but so far I like it! I have sacrificed a lot for my career, coming from a village to Cairo and representing Egypt on this stage is incredible for me”.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (FC Liverpool): “It’s hard to put this into words. In the season we had, we deserved it more than any other team. We did something special, we dominated the game. We won’t look back and think it was a sluggish game. I’m just a normal boy from Liverpool whose dream just came true.”

Joel Matip (FC Liverpool): “This is just a great moment. That’s what we’ve been working towards for a year or more. There’s no way you’re sleeping tonight. No matter who played, that made it outstanding. We were pretty good together. That’s why we deserved to win today.”

Alisson (FC Liverpool): “This is a childhood dream that comes true for me. It’s an incredible feeling to stand here with the team. I’ll tell my grandchildren about this.”

Divock Origi (FC Liverpool): “This is something special. But it was also a tough game. But we gave it all we had.”

… about his way from VfL Wolfsburg to CL winner: “In football, it’s fast, it can turn fast. I scored the goal and now we’re here. That’s why we love football.”

Christian Eriksen about …

… the game: “I am disappointed. We were hoping to win and stand outside and celebrate. After two minutes it was already running in the wrong direction, then we had to fight our way back. It was a tough game.”

… the early counter goal: “One cannot say that it was already over there. We had enough chances to equalize, but we weren’t good enough. Your keeper had some good parades. But Liverpool could play a bit more relaxed afterwards. Not because they changed their game, but because they had more confidence. Of course it makes a difference whether you’re leading or lagging behind, but we wanted to play forward anyway. We wanted to push high, win the ball and create opportunities. We can be proud of our game, but not of the result.”

… Harry Kane in the starting eleven: “Whoever the manager chooses is fit enough to play. It’s about doing the job on the field. Harry was fit, so why shouldn’t he play?”

… the season of Spurs: “Looking back, we can be very proud. We were in the Champions League final and qualified again for the Champions League. For me and many players it was the first final. We got a taste for it and we want more.”

… the next step in his career: “Now I have to go to the doping control. That’s my next move.”
