Champions League: Cavani after CL-Aus: Needed a doctor to be able to sleep

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has suffered from sleep problems following his spectacular elimination from the Champions League against FC Barcelona in 2016/17 and has therefore had to see a doctor.

“I wasn’t able to sleep. I just read all the time,” the Uruguayan said in an interview with ESPN, adding: “I then started to get angry because I went to the training without closing my eyes just once the night before.

As Cavani further revealed, he then sought medical help: “A doctor calmed me down and prescribed me a medicine to help me fall asleep. I gradually managed to get some sleep.”

PSG lost 2016/17 to Barca in the Champions League Round of 16 despite a 4-0 first leg win. At Camp Nou, the French Serie champions were still on quarter-final course after 88 minutes at 1-4, before the Catalans were catapulted 6-1 out of the premier league by goals from Neymar and Sergi Roberto Cavani and Co. It was the biggest comeback in Champions League history.

Since then, the Paris club have never made it past the last sixteen, despite their great ambitions. In 2017/18 the star ensemble failed in the first knockout round against Real Madrid and in the current season against Manchester United.
