Bundesliga: Werder wants to retain coach Kohfeldt for the long term

Two years before the current contract expires, Bundesliga club Werder Bremen is already interested in an even longer-term relationship with coach Florian Kohfeldt.

“We have deposited with Florian and his consultant that we can imagine a cooperation beyond 2021,” Werder Sports Director Frank Baumann told the Weser courier.

Last season, the Bremen coach had led the Hanseatic League to the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and to eighth place in the Bundesliga, narrowly missing out on qualification for the Europa League. It’s what made him covet.

However, the 36-year-old had repeatedly stressed in the past that he felt bound by the term of his contract with the North Germans and that there should be no opt-out clause either.

“I’m with Werder, I’m staying with Werder, and I don’t feel like I have to leave here,” Kohfeldt explained at the end of the season.
