Bundesliga: Verbal own goals at live commentary: BVB punishes Owomoyela and Dickel

Borussia Dortmund has punished Patrick Owomoyela and Norbert Dickel after verbal derailments during the transmission of a test match in the club radio station. The two former BVB pros had attracted attention with their live commentary in the match against Udinese Calcio on 27 Julin several times negatively.

The former national player Owomoyela and Dickel, who also speaks at the BVB stadium, called Italian players “Itaker” several times and made fun of the surnames of the Dortmund opponents. Owomoyela even tried a Hitler parody. The WDR had been the first medium to report the incident.

“We sanctioned their misconduct and made it unmistakably clear to both of them that their attempt to be funny had gone completely wrong, was absolutely out of place and that there was no room for such remarks here,” BVB announced in a statement on Monday evening. “Both admitted their misconduct a week ago and promised that it would not happen again.” The penalty was not known.

The club has meanwhile deleted the video, which remained accessible on the club’s own homepage and the club’s YouTube channel. Owomoyela had already stressed during the broadcast that it was just “fun”: “Of course we don’t want to annoy anybody if fans of Udinese Calcio listen here.”
