Trainer suspensions: Nagelsmann demands rethinking

Coach Julian Nagelsmann of the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has called on the German Soccer League (DFL) to rethink the planned suspension regulations for coaches.

“At least the idea of three (yellow cards) plus red in such fast cases should be abandoned,” the coach said at the International Coach Congress in Kassel on Monday.

“Why should a coach go to the stands faster than a player,” asked Nagelsmann, who had already criticised the plans and added: “I just think the referee will show the yellow card much faster than he sent you to the stands earlier.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) introduced a new rule in March that allows cautions and reprimands against coaches. The DFL is supposed to be planning a ban after three yellow cards. Players must currently sit out after five Yellow Cards for each game.

Meanwhile, Nagelsmann appealed to the common sense of those involved.

“If you cultivate the culture of conflict and then shake hands and look into each other’s eyes, then you can do many things in the human sense without having to regulate everything,” said the 32-year-old: “I’ve been with my wife for twelve years and there have also been a few disputes here and there. “Then you’ll be sure to get back together, and life will go on as normal.”
