Bundesliga: Sammer can't understand criticism of Favre and Kovac

Matthias Sammer has no sympathy for the criticism expressed in part to Niko Kovac and Lucien Favre. “It’s not worrying, it’s sick,” said the 1996 European Champion in bwin Sammer Time about the coaches of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

“I think it’s almost sick what happens in our society with people and the way of thinking – it’s like in ancient Rome. It makes me feel like I’ve been taken back a lot. This applies not only to Lucien Favre, but also to Niko Kovac,” Sammer indignantly expressed his outrage at the sometimes vehement criticism.

Both coaches were repeatedly criticized during the current season: Favre and Borussia Dortmund have lost their lead to Bayern Munich over the past few weeks, while Niko Kovac was almost on the verge of losing out in the first half of the season after some difficult weeks in November.

Sammer also complains about the development of German football. “I believe that the mental readiness that has always made the Germans strong has rather regressed,” said Sammer.

“We have developed in a sporty way from man to space coverage, but ambivalently overall. If you improve your sportsmanship, you must also adjust your mentality.”
