S04 – Council of Honour meets: What is this?

Bundesliga: S04 - Council of Honour meets: What is this?

The Honorary Board of FC Schalke 04 meets today to decide on the future of Clemens Tönnies, Chairman of the Supervisory Board. You can find out all about it here at SOCCERSCORE.

Clemens Tönnies has been a member of Schalke’s supervisory board since 1994 and its chairman since 2001.

According to FC Schalke 04, the honorary council consists of “five active or passive members over 30 years of age who have been members of the club for at least five years. At least two members must be qualified to hold the office of judge”.

According to a report by Bild, the members of the council want to have former and current Schalke players with foreign roots testify. Thus Gerald Asamoah, Thilo Kehrer, Naldo, Salif Sane and Suat Serdar are to be questioned.

Pikant: Lawyer Bernsmann represented Tönnies in 2011, when he had to answer in court for the accusation of incorrect labelling of his company.

Clemens Tönnies had said on the day it Handwerks in Paderborn that instead of a CO2 tax, 20 power plants should be financed annually in Africa. “Then the Africans would stop felling trees and stop producing children when it’s dark,” he added according to the New Westphalian.

According to the picture, Tönnies is flying in from his holiday domicile Mallorca today, Tuesday, to answer to the Council.

The Honorary Council has far-reaching powers, as even the Hamm Higher Regional Court confirmed in a ruling. So the honorary council has a lot of leeway.

According to the statutes, the Council may exclude members in the event of “grossly association-damaging or dishonourable conduct, in particular in connection with the announcement of racist or xenophobic sentiments”.

With the focus on the case of Clemens Tönnies, the upcoming compulsory start of the royal blues game is almost forgotten. Next Saturday the Schalkers will play their first round match in the DFB Cup at SV Drochtersen/Assel. In the Bundesliga, Gelsenkirchen will meet Borussia Mönchengladbach for the first time.
