Rangnick: “No club has registered yet because of Werner”

Bundesliga: Rangnick: "No club has registered yet because of Werner"

RB Leipzig’s former coach, Ralf Rangnick, has denied that another club has so far asked for Timo Werner’s commitment. The 23-year-old striker has long been associated with a move to FC Bayern Munich.

“Timo is of the opinion that he does not want to extend the contract, but so far no club has reported that it has agreed with Timo and wants to commit him,” Rangnick told the kicker. Werner’s contract in Leipzig runs until 2020.

If Werner really doesn’t want to extend the contract, Rangnick pleads for a summer change: “I still believe that Timo’s idea of going into a final contract year is not a good one. Depending on his performance, this could also be difficult with the fans, which would be a shame because he has developed into an audience darling with us.”

Regardless of Werner’s whereabouts, Rangnick announced to his successor Julian Nagelsmann “three, a maximum of four” further additions. So far, Leipzig has only brought in midfielder Hannes Wolf from RB Salzburg (twelve million Euro transfer) and left-back Luan Candido from Palmeiras (eight million).

Rangnick will act as Head of Sport and Development Soccer for Red Bull.
