Bundesliga: Police investigates anti-Nazi posters with BVB players

Police have begun investigations into Borussia Dortmund after an illegal poster campaign with pictures and alleged quotations from players.

The Dortmund police announced on Monday that the state security is becoming active “on suspicion of violation of the art copyright law as well as suspicion of damage to property”.

Before the Bundesliga match against Fortuna Düsseldorf (3:2), about 40 BVB-look posters appeared in the city area on Saturday. On the posters there were alleged quotes from current and former BVB players and coach Lucien Favre.

Marco Reus is quoted with the movement “Lieber Schalkesieg als Nazikiez”, the movement “Dauerkarten für Naziaussteiger” was associated with Favre. The messages carried the logos of the Bundesliga club and the Exit drop-out organization.

Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke, however, denied BVB’s participation: “I have heard that these fake posters exist. We have nothing to do with this. I don’t know whether we can resist it,” Watzke said.

“Borussia Dortmund stands for the fight against racism and clearly distances itself from any form of discrimination. But the BVB is not the author of the posters currently in circulation,” the BVB announced via Twitter. Exit also distanced itself from the action. The police are now looking for witnesses.
