Midfield talent Martin Ödegaard allegedly landed in Düsseldorf on Thursday to negotiate with Bayer Leverkusen on a move from Real Madrid to fourth place in the Bundesliga last season. This was reported by the renowned Norwegian television station TV2.
Ödegaard was seen together with his advisor Björn Tore Kvarm and his father Hans Erik at Düsseldorf airport, which is about 30 minutes by car from Leverkusen. The Spanish newspaper Marcab reported recently that Bayer was one of the most interesting options for the 20-year-old Norwegian.
That Real Ödegaard wants to sell is considered unlikely after his strong lending season at Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie. However, a new loan is probably possible, as Ajax Amsterdam is apparently also in the race alongside Leverkusen.
Simon Rolfes, Sports Director of Werkself, recently stressed that Ödegaard was “an interesting player” for Bayer. After PSG talent Moussa Diabyal’s additional replacement for Julian Brandt, who moved to Borussia Dortmund, the international could be planned in the offensive midfield.
Ödegaard, who switched from Stromsgodset IF to Real at the beginning of 2015 at the age of 16, has a contract with the Royals until 2021. Until the end of June, the left foot, which has only played two competitive games for Madrid’s first team to date, is officially awarded to Vitesse. Last season Ödegaard scored eleven goals and twelve assists in 39 matches for the Dutch team.
