Bundesliga: Neo-Legional Florian Flecker talks about his first weeks at Union Berlin

Florian Flecker made a name for himself in the Austrian Bundesliga with his strong performances at surprise promoted TSV Hartberg. After only one year, the wingman changed to the traditional German club 1. FC Union Berlin. In the Krone, Flecker now talks about his impressions in the first weeks at the Bundesliga club.

Florian Flecker experiences a wild time in his young career. Last summer still without a contract, the 23-year-old advanced to one of the strongest wing runners in the Bundesliga with 7 goals and 6 assists at Hartberg. As early as the following winter, the then German second league team Union Berlin expressed interest in Styria for the first time. In the end, the Berlin Fleckers were able to make a free commitment in the summer due to the expiration of the contract.

With the change from the Styrian province to the metropolis of millions Berlin, a childhood dream will come true for the native of Murau. The fact that his current employer also managed to make it to the top is, of course, double luck for Flecker: “Another world, the euphoria surrounding the club is huge after the promotion to the Bundesliga. Recently the fans waited two hours in the pouring rain for autographs from us”.

For the Berliners, Flecker and ex-Rapidler Christopher Trimmel could form an Austrian wing. However, competition has also increased significantly as a result of the ascent. Because with the obligations of Suleiman Abdullahi of Eintracht Braunschweig and Sheraldo Becker of ADO Den Haag, as well as Akaki Gogia, Flecker has to match himself with three colleagues for the extreme right position. But he himself is optimistic: “You learn a lot, every competitor only makes you stronger.” And he goes on: “I’ll knock everything into it and then be there too. I still haven’t really realized that I might be able to play against Bayern and Dortmund.”
