Bundesliga: "Local Players": Bayer takes the most money

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen as well as second division clubs Holstein Kiel and 1st FC Magdeburg have secured the highest bonuses of the German Football League (DFL) in the “Local Player” category through the use of young players.

Leverkusen (9697 minutes of deployment by U23 professionals) received EUR 1.32 million, Kiel (9354) EUR 1.28 million and Magdeburg (8273) EUR 1.13 million.

The distribution is based on the minutes of play of the so-called “local players”, who are registered at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21 with a club in the area of the German Football Association (DFB).

The total funding pot amounts to two percent of the national media revenues and thus more than 22 million euros for the past season.

In addition, the DFL supports clubs in all leagues involved in the training of licensed players. This remuneration also benefits amateur clubs, where later professionals have completed part of their training.
