Audi Cup: In penalty shootout: Bavaria lose Supercup dress rehearsal

FC Bayern have missed another success in their season preparation. In the final of the Audi Cup Niko Kovac’s team lost to the English first division team Tottenham Hotspur in the penalty shoot-out. After 90 minutes the score had been 2:2.

In contrast to the convincing performance in the semi-final against Fenerbahce on Tuesday (6-1), Bayern coach Kovac sent a better C-team into the race in view of the prestige duel with BVB. Only Neuer and Süle remained in the initial formation, Kimmich, Goretzka, Martinez and Gnabry were not even in the squad for reasons of protection. Instead, young players like Kehl and Johansson from the U19 or Will, Nollenberger and Singh from the U23 were allowed to prove themselves.

As the Spurs went into the game with more regular forces, Kovac’s large rotation became noticeable in half one. There was no pace in the last third, with which the record champion had played the admittedly much weaker Fenerbahce dizzy. The action on the grass was nothing more than a kick of friendship, the Munich team almost never got into pressing situations, which made it easy for the English to drive the ball forward safely.

The goal by Lamela (19.) was preceded by a sprint from Nkoudou over the left wing, which the young Kehl could not stop. Lamela pushed in after Nkoudous’s sharp input from close range. Bavaria’s left-back Davies came too late in this situation, but was still one of the most active and committed in the game forward.

The Canadian also skilfully prepared the follow-up goal by newcomer Arp only 120 seconds after the 2-0 for Tottenham by Eriksen (59th). From this point on – also due to the substitution of top performers such as Thiago, Müller or Lewandowski – more momentum came into the game. The Bavarians pressed the Londoners into their sixteens, but lost the Coman, who had just been substituted, injured his knee after a duel with defender Foyth and limped into the cabin. The equalizer came nevertheless – by the Davies moved up after Alabas taking in. In the lottery of the penalty shootout the Spurs finally asserted themselves.

Goals: 1:0 Lamela (19.), 2:0 Eriksen (59.), 2:1 Arp (61.), 2:2 Davies (81.)

Penalty shootout: Alderweireld meets to 1:0 – Alaba shoots – Eriksen shoots – Thiago meets to 1:1 – Kane meets to 2:1 – Müller meets to 2:2 – Son meets to 3:2 – Sanches meets to 3:3 – Roles meets to 4:3 – Lewandowski meets to 4:4 – Skipp meets to 5:4 – Singh meets to 5:5 – Tanganga meets to 6:5 – Boateng shoots

First replaced Alaba as left-back and did his job well. Later changed one position to the front and played Arp free worth seeing, the moments later pushed in to 1:2. Just before the end, shot from 18 meters to equalize.

Together with Süle he formed the central defence of the record champion and had noticeable problems. First he lost the header duel against Moura, a few moments later he lost the ball in the build-up game. In addition: a weak total of 15 percent.

Spent a relaxing evening in Fröttmaning. Didn’t let anything get to him.
