Hummels? BVB “always his heart club”

After the announcement of the return of Mats Hummels to Borussia Dortmund, BVB Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke commented on the transfer coup in an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten. He emphasized that the return from Munich was at the request of the 2014 World Champion.

Watzke explained that Hummels, who had moved from Borussia to Munich in 2016, had always been in contact with him. Borussia had always been Hummel’s “club of the heart”.

The central defender had informed FC Bayern of his wish to change, and BVB did not hesitate for long. BVB had agreed that it had to strike in this situation.

According to Watzke, the negotiations with the Munich team had been “very serious and reliable”, and he had “great respect” for the fact that the Bavarians had responded to the wish of the central defender.

Together with Hummels, Watzke wants to fight for the top of the Bundesliga again. “We will go into the season with the proviso of playing for the German Championship without any ifs and buts,” explained the Managing Director.

On Wednesday, both clubs had announced the Hummels transfer, with BVB putting 30 million euros on the table for the 30-year-old, with bonuses increasing the amount to 38 million euros.
