“Greedy”? Alaba reacts – Matthew turns on

David Alaba’s possible departure from FC Bayern has been causing a stir for months. While the German record champion is fighting for an extension with his top star (contract until 2021), the competition is already in position.
Football record international Lothar Matthäus has little understanding for the Austrian’s poker for more money in view of the contract negotiations between David Alaba and FC Bayern Munich.

“Should it really be the case that he and his consultant are only interested in getting more salary, I don’t think that would be the smartest decision,” wrote the 59-year-old in his column for the TV channel “Sky”. He, too, could have raised more money in some contracts at his time. “But I can assure David that at the end of his career, it won’t be what makes him even happier.” The 1990

World Champion sees goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and striker Robert Lewandowski at the top of the salary structure at the Champions League winner. If Alaba was promoted to the top 3 or top 5 by his new contract with Bavaria, that would be perfectly fine. “Money should not be the most important criterion, especially in today’s times and in a connection such as that of David and the Bavarians,” wrote Matthew. On the other hand, the “Sky”expert would

understand if Alaba wanted to leave the club in order to get to know something new. “If he had the great desire to play for a club like Real (Madrid), experience the Premier League week after week or conjure up with Messi, those would be arguments I can understand,” Matthew said. The 28-year-old Alaba has been with the German record champion since 2010. His contract with the Bavarians expires next summer.
