Glasner follows Labbadia in summer

Bundesliga: WOB: Glasner follows Labbadia in summer

Oliver Glasner (44) succeeds Bruno Labbadia (53) as coach at VfL Wolfsburg for the coming season. The Austrian signed a three-year contract with Lower Saxony until 2022, VfL announced on Tuesday. The coach can switch to VfL on the basis of an exit clause.

Glasner changes from the Linz ASK to the wolves. Labbadia, who saved the club from relegation in 2018, announced in March that they would not renew their expiring contract.

“We have been working with Oliver Glasner for quite some time and followed his impressive work in Linz closely”, said Wolfsburg’s Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke, “the discussions with him confirmed the positive impressions we had of him up to then and gave us the certain feeling that he was the right choice to tackle the next development phase with VfL Wolfsburg”.

The 44-year-old Glasner has earned a reputation in his Austrian home country as a coach with a clear idea for a game that can further develop young players. In his four years in Linz, he first led the LASK back into the first league. After fourth place in the premiere year, the Linz team is currently second behind series champion Red Bull Salzburg. “The change to the German Bundesliga is a great challenge, which I am very much looking forward to and which I am very happy to face,” said the future VfL coach.
