Bundesliga: Gladbach apparently interested in city talent

Borussia Mönchengladbach is allegedly interested in Lukas Nmecha from Manchester City. The 20-year-old striker was born in Hamburg and will be competing at the upcoming U21 European Championships for Germany.

“Germany and the Bundesliga would be good for me and my development. Of course, Manchester City has to agree with that, but maybe I’ll play the Bundesliga next season,” he told the picture. According to the report, both a loan and a firm commitment would be possible for Gladbach. Nmecha’s contract runs until 2021.

Nmecha has been active for City since the age of nine. His family had previously emigrated from Hamburg to England. On 19 December 2017 he made his debut under coach Pep Guardiola at a League Cup match against Leicester City in City’s professional team.

Last season, Nmecha played on loan for the English second division team Preston North End. In 44 games he scored three goals and prepared eight more. “I am physically strong and very fast,” says Nmecha about himself.

Until U21, Nmecha played for all English U national teams, before choosing Germany and making his debut on 26 March 2019. “The subject of England is definitely over for me. I can completely rule out playing for their senior national team. I feel like a German and therefore want to play for Germany,” he said.

At the U21 World Championships in Italy and San Marino, which begin on Sunday, he will meet Germany, Austria, Serbia and Denmark.
