Borussia Dortmund has strengthened its position in Julian Brandt of league competitor Bayer Leverkusen with the next high-carat team for the coming season. The 23-year-old offensive player leaves the factory club after five and a half years and moves to BVB for the fixed transfer fee of 25 million euros. Brandt receives a five-year contract until June 30, 2024.
“I am a person who decides things from his gut and for whom a good feeling is important,” stressed Brandt in a BVB press release: “I want to develop personally, that is one of the main reasons for my change.
Brandt made use of an opt-out clause in his contract with Bayer, which runs until 2021. After qualifying for the Champions League on the last Bundesliga match day, Bayer had hoped to be able to hold the Bremen-born player after all.
Recently, the German champion Bayern Munich and various European top clubs had also been associated with Brandt. The national player, however, decided in favour of the Westphalians.
“Although Julian Brandt has played in the Bundesliga for a long time and has a lot of experience both nationally and internationally, at 23 he is still a very young professional with development potential,” said Dortmund’s Sports Director Michael Zorc.
On Tuesday, the BVB had already announced the signing of national player Nico Schulz (TSG Hoffenheim) until 2024. It is to cost 27 million euros.
Since Wednesday, Thorgan Hazard’s move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Dortmund has also been perfect. The Belgian, who was also bound until 2024, is supposed to cost 25.5 million euros.
