Ferryman’s departure fixed – replacement already in place

Goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann changes from Bundesliga club Schalke 04 to Premier League promoted Norwich City. The 30-year-old, who had lost his regular place to U21 national goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, will be borrowed for a season by the team of German coach Daniel Farke.

At the same time, his contract with Schalke was extended until 2023.

“Everybody dreams of it. Being part of the Premier League is wonderful,” Fährmann said, “after 14 years with a club I felt it was time for something new.” Among several offers from England he had decided in favour of Norwich.

Schalke’s sports executive Jochen Schneider explained that the club had “implemented a promise from a long time ago with the extension of the contract”. It would still be “unusual to see him in a different jersey”.

Schalke also signed Markus Schubert, who plays with Nübel in the U21, on a free basis. The 21-year-old comes from the second league club Dynamo Dresden and signed for four years.
