Eberl continues to criticize Pléa’s expulsion

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sports director Max Eberl has caused a stir in the current discussion about a stricter punishment of complaining football professionals with different statements.

In contrast to the 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga top match on 1 February at RB Leipzig, when he criticised the dismissal of striker Alassane Pléa, he recommended that referee Deniz Aytekin take consistent action in a “ARD” documentary (“Cards, whistles, fat basses”) broadcast on the 4th of the month: “Please go through with the new rules, it is imperative that you referees show more respect,” Eberl said.
