Bundesliga: Despite video proof anger: DFB conclusion positive

In spite of great criticism and countless discussions, the DFB has rated the use of the video evidence in the past Bundesliga season positively. 82 wrong decisions were prevented thanks to technical assistance – 18 more than in the previous test season.

“Without additional support from the Cologne Video Assist Center, these situations would have been misjudged and in most cases would probably have led to a different course of the game and a different result,” said DFB video chief Jochen Drees.

And continues: “This once again proves beyond doubt that football in the Bundesliga has become fairer and more just through the work of the video assistants”.

Drees differentiated the total of 19 wrong interventions of the video assistants, since “in the end, in only two cases did the referee make a wrong decision in the stadium in terms of the rules”. These few wrong decisions must of course be avoided in the future,” demanded the former referee.

According to Drees, the aim is also “to optimise the review processes”. Finally in the 306 league games a total of 1728 tricky situations had been checked in the Cologne basement.

But 1198 times these were so-called “silent checks”, so there was no communication between the video assistants and the impartial on the square.
