Bundesliga: BVB stars probably collected megapremium for victory

Before the match against Hertha BSC in mid-March, the players of Borussia Dortmund apparently received a victory bonus of one million euros. BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, however, does not see that a victory of FC Schalke 04 in the upcoming district derby (Saturday, from 15.30 in the LIVETICKER) would save the season of S04.

Here you will find the most important news and rumours about the BVB.

Borussia Dortmund has apparently promised its players a one-time win bonus for a win against Hertha BSC in mid-March. That’s what the Sport Bild reports on Wednesday. According to information from the newspaper, the BVB managers had the scant 3:2 victory in the capital city cost them a total of one million euros.

The BVB won the match in Berlin with a late goal from Marco Reus in injury time, keeping FC Bayern close behind in the fight for the championship. A week later, the black-yellows took the lead again, but lost it again with a 5-0 clap in Munich.

Before the last four days of play, both teams are separated by only one point. While the BVB will welcome FC Schalke 04 to the club derby next Saturday, the Munich club will be playing at the relegation threatened club from Nuremberg one day later.

BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke denied that a Schalker victory in the derby next Saturday (from 15.30 in the LIVETICKER) would save the corked season of the royal blues. This was what BVB’s central defender Abdou Diallo said at the beginning of the week (“With this game Schalke can save his season”).

“The constellation in front of this derby is certainly a very special one,” Watzke said to the picture: “A lot is at stake for both teams. But when I hear or read in the media that Schalke can save the entire season with one game, then I have to wonder. This argument is a little ridiculous.”

While the BVB is playing for the ninth German championship in club history four match days before the end of the season and is only one point behind FC Bayern in second place, the royal blue archrival is still in the relegation battle. Six points separate the Schalker from the relegation place 16.

Never before in the history of the Bundesliga have the two Spott clubs been so far apart in a derby as this year. There are 42 points between the two teams.
