Bundesliga: Bayern rumours: Keeper Nübel says it all

Schalke keeper Alexander Nübel has told Eurosport about the rumours about a possible departure from FC Bayern Munich next summer. The 22-year-old focuses primarily on the last Bundesliga matches and the U21 European Championship. First he wants to establish himself on Schalke.

After the home match against FC Augsburg (0:0), Nübel told Eurosport about the rumours about him: “I have a contract until 2020 and the European Championship in summer. For me it’s all about today’s game and winning the next games. I want to make my first 20 games in a row.”

The goalkeeper talent had been repeatedly associated with FC Bayern Munich in recent weeks. Nübel consultant Stefan Backs had not ruled out a departure from Gelsenkirchen for Sport1: “Alex has the right to think about it. Existing contracts are not unilateral. Should Schalke generate a large transfer fee with Alex – as with Neuer – the club would have made a good deal.”

Bavaria’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, however, had refrained from an obligation following criticism by Schalke trainer Huub Stevens. “We have no interest in causing trouble at Schalke because of Alexander Nübel,” he said at the end of April.

Originally, Nübel moved into the royal blue goal after an injury to Ralf Fährmann in the preliminary round – but only for three games for the time being. At the start of the second half of the season, former coach Tedesco gave the 22-year-old his place as regular goalkeeper. Since then, Nübel has played 13 Bundesliga games and showed strong performances.

With a move to Munich, Nübel would do the same for Manuel Neuer, who also moved from Schalke to Munich in 2011. Neuer is now 33 years old and has to fight again and again with injuries.
