Bundesliga: 1st FCN: New coach probably from Austria

Coach Boris Schommers will leave the already relegated Bundesliga team 1 FC Nürnberg at the end of the season. The 40-year-old had temporarily taken over the club in February as successor to the dismissed Michael Köllner, but could not prevent the ninth relegation of the traditional Franconian club.

“In a difficult phase, he agreed to help the club and gave the team stability for the last third of the season, which helped us to leave the Bundesliga with our heads held high,” said Thomas Grethlein, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Schommers, who will be sitting on the FCN bench for the last time at the away match in Freiburg on Saturday (15.30 hrs in the LIVETICKER), was hoping to continue as head coach.

The top candidate for the post is the Austrian Damir Canadi from the Greek first division team Atromitos Athens. The new club coach will be presented by sports director Robert Palikuca this week.

Peter Hermann, a nine-time champion, will be the future sports director. The 67-year-old is currently still an assistant at Bayern Munich. Palikuca once called Hermann an “interesting man”.

Club legend Marek Mintal, previously Schommers’ assistant coach, will in future be in charge of FCN’s U21s in the regional league.
