Witsel raves about Reus: “On one level” with Hazard and De Bruyne

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel sees his team-mate Marco Reus on a par with his Belgian compatriots Eden Hazard (Real Madrid) and Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City).

“Yes, it’s qualitatively on the same level. He is a top player for me,” said Witsel on Sunday during a media round at the training camp in Bad Ragaz.

Reus had previously been voted Germany’s Footballer of the Year for the second time since 2012. “Of course he deserves it. He’s a fantastic player. His shooting technique is insane. He is a very important player for us, the club, the fans,” said Witsel.

Witsel had moved from Tianjin Quanjian to Dortmund in summer 2018. In his first season, he competed in 43 competitive matches and scored six goals.

Reus scored 21 goals in 36 games. In June, the BVB captain had already been voted player of the season by his professional colleagues.
