Borussia Dortmund apparently discusses internally the necessity of another central defender after 44 goals in the past Bundesliga season. Sergio Reguilon, on the other hand, could come as reinforcement on the left side. Marco Reus wants to be champion in “two to three years”. And what’s going on with Ferran Torres? Here you can find all news and rumours about the BVB.
Borussia Dortmund, after scoring 44 goals in the past Bundesliga season, is following a report by the kicker about hiring another central defender. Should the financial possibility exist, the BVB would probably like to improve quality in the last row. Nevertheless, this is more a luxury variant than a real duty.
There are currently five nominal central defenders under contract: Abdou Diallo, who played almost exclusively as a left-back due to the many injuries in the second half, and Manuel Akanji, who has been the main duo in central defence so far. Dan-Axel Zagadou, veteran Ömer Toprak and Leonardo Balerdi, who signed the contract this winter, are on the second row.
In the second half of the season the nominal defensive midfielder Julian Weigl proved to be a reliable option, but according to kicker information he might return to his original position. There will also be a change to Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile the kicker did not mention concrete names concerning the Borussia’s request. Stefan Effenberg had last brought Jerome Boateng from FC Bayern Munich into conversation with BVB. It is unknown whether the former international is actually part of the considerations. Boateng announced that he would not “run away” in spite of the strong competition in the four-chain of the record champion.
Borussia Dortmund is interested in Sergio Reguilon, according to a report in the Spanish daily AS. Real Madrid left-back Marcel Schmelzer could therefore take over from former captain Marcel Schmelzer. After a bone edema suffered at the end of September under Lucien Favre, he played no sporting role at all.
Reguilon was called to the royal pros in the summer of 2018, but played a mixed season. Under Julen Lopetegui he had no important role, the same applies to his current standing under Zinedine Zidane. But Santiago Solari trusted the 22-year-old Spaniard and preferred him to Marcelo, who had been seeded for years.
Whether Dortmund is actually looking for a replacement for Schmelzer is questionable, however, given the already fixed transfer of Nico Schulz and the statements of sports director Michael Zorc. He recently emphasised that Schmelzer certainly has a future at BVB: “He is an important factor for us, also in the cabin. He embodies a high degree of identification with Borussia Dortmund. I want to keep seeing Marcel at BVB.”
Supercup against Bavaria
Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund wants to celebrate the German championship in the coming years. “In the next two or three years, it has to work out. I’ll do everything I can to help,” the BVB captain told the kicker. You can read here why his greed for the title is so great.
Borussia Dortmund is said to be interested in Ferran Torres of FC Valencia, according to a report in the Daily Mail. The 19-year-old has been playing for the Spanish pros since January 2018 and has attracted attention as a right-winger in the Spanish league. When the contract was extended in April 2018, an exit clause amounting to more than 100 million euros was stipulated.
Not only this sum makes a transfer to Dortmund very unlikely. The Dortmund offensive has a high quality and quantitative composition after the additions of Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen) and Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Mönchengladbach). The current focus seems to be on a middle forward, if at all.
