In Real Madrid’s courtship of Manchester United midfield star Paul Pogba, Blancos stars James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale and Isco become the decisive figures.
According to information from SOCCERSCORE and Goal, the Royals must first flush money into the coffers by selling more players before the World Champion can be bought. This is to be achieved through transfer payments and salary savings from valuable high-income earners such as Bale, Isco and James.
The financial fair play could also become a problem in the course of a possible Pogba deal, as the Madrilenians have already spent around 300 million euros on new arrivals in the current transfer window (for Eder Militao, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy).
On the other hand, there are only transfer revenues of around 125 million euros (Mateo Kovacic, Marcos Llorente, Raul de Tomas, Theo Hernandez). Pogba would probably cost another 150 to 180 million euros, which means that the club would have to earn about this amount through sales in order not to fear any consequences.
This is also the reason why Real insists on James’ intended Napoli transfer on a sale this summer, while Napoli wants to borrow the Colombian with a call option.
An official offer from Madrid for Paul Pogba is still pending anyway, as Man United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirmed. “There’s a lot of speculation, but it’s already part of everyday life. But so far we haven’t received an offer for one of our players,” the coach said and added. “Paul and most of the others have long contracts anyway.”
