Mohamed Salah is playing an outstanding season at Liverpool FC and just missed out on the Reds championship. In the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur (Saturday, 9pm live on DAZN and in the LIVETICKER) the Egyptian will have the next chance to win the title. SOCCERSCORE looks at the striker’s performance in the current season.
Before the semi-final return leg in the Champions League against FC Barcelona, not many Liverpool fans believed in the sensation. The main reason: Mohamed Salah dropped out after a concussion in the league game against Newcastle.
Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita were also absent, but the Reds still made it through a historic 4-0 lead.
For the final on Saturday at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid against Tottenham Hotspur, the Egyptian has long been regenerated. In the final Premier League match against Wolverhampton, the goal scorer was back on the pitch. Since that game, the Reds have been able to prepare for the final for almost three weeks.
Despite the long preparation time, coach Jürgen Klopp does not plan any experiments in the conversation with DAZN: “We are in the last phase of the season, if we had to start something completely new, something would be wrong. We have to remember things: What are we going to do? What exactly do we want to do against this opponent? And then it’s go out and fight like never before.”
Mohamed Salah has been spared major injuries in his career to date. The 26-year-old never missed more than four weeks and more than four games. This season is no different: Due to the concussion Salah only had to miss the CL game against Barcelona.
Salah was not the only goalscorer to appear in the Premier League, having secured the Premier League’s top scorer along with his team-mates Sadio Mane and Sergio Agüero. In addition, he prepared 13 hits across competitions.
Liverpool FC played a very strong Premier League season, but 97 points were not enough to win the title because Manchester City had one more point on their books. With early elimination from the FA and League Cup, the Champions League represents the last chance for a title for the Reds.
