Survey: Leipzig’s third-most popular BL club

In a nationwide survey, the renowned market research company Nielsen surveyed the sympathy ratings of all Bundesliga clubs – and came up with a surprising result.

According to the figures of the New York-based company, 3.2 percent of those surveyed aged between 16 and 65 stated RB Leipzig as their favourite club. Extrapolated to the relevant target group in Germany, this would mean that around 2 million people would describe last year’s cup finalist as their favourite club in Germany.

This puts the top club from the East in third place nationwide, but still well behind BVB (16.8 percent) and FC Bayern (21.5 percent). However, the Leipzig club ranks ahead of traditional clubs such as VfB Stuttgart (3.1 percent), Schalke 04 (2.8 percent) and Hertha BSC (2.1 percent).

This result is particularly surprising because the club has only existed for ten years. “For the fact that the association is still so young, this is a really very positive result , says also Christian Riedle, boss of the market research institute IRIS (Intelligent Research in Sponsoring), in the picture.

According to Riedle, the good performance of the Saxons can be explained by “constantly good values” in the “important parameters such as competence, credibility and ambitions”, which they have “even expanded compared to the previous year”.
