The future of Rio World Champion Jerome Boateng at Bayern Munich is still open. The topic has “not yet been finally decided”, said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge during a visit of the German record champion to Nasa’s Space Center in Houston.
The 30-year-old central defender had played 90 minutes in the night on Sunday (CEST) at Bayern’s 3-1 draw against Real Madrid, but had then flown back to Germany from the USA. This had “exclusively private reasons”, Rummenigge stressed, “and no problems”.
After the million-dollar commitments of French defenders Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard, a change of Boateng was expected. “We will wait in peace, we must also see what happens on the transfer market. Then we will have a final discussion with him on how to proceed,” Rummenigge had already said before.
Meanwhile the future of Reanto Sanches, who will continue to play for FC Bayern in the coming season, has been decided. “I had a long talk with him in Los Angeles,” Rummenigge said. “When he arrived at the age of 18, he was still a boy – now he is an experienced man, even on the pitch. We’ll have a lot of fun with him.”
The Bavarian boss has so far been “highly satisfied” with the US tour of the Munich team. I must compliment the team on their commitment to this trip. Everything’s great so far.” Finally, the Munichers will meet AC Milan in Kansas City on Tuesday evening (Wednesday, 3am live on DAZN). Afterwards it goes back to Munich.
