FC Bayern Munich has apparently refrained from an offer for Matthijs de Ligt. ESPN reports this with reference to a source from the association’s environment. The future of the Ajax captain, who will also be courted by Manchester United and FC Barcelona, remains uncertain.
According to ESPN, the German record champion informed the 19-year-old central defender in a telephone conversation that other measures on the transfer market would be a priority in the summer.
While the Munich team has already signed Benjamin Pavard (VfB Stuttgart) and Lucas Hernandez (Atletico Madrid) for a total of 115 million euros for the defensive, reinforcements in the offensive area – apart from junior striker Jann-Fiete Arp (Hamburger SV) – have been in short supply to date.
Following the disposals of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, the FCB still needs to be retrofitted, especially in the wing positions. “We need another external player,” Rummenigge had already made clear in April.
Most recently, the club leadership around President Uli Hoeneß and CEO Rummenigge had confirmed FC Bayern’s interest in Leroy Sane. Hoeneß, however, described a transfer of the national player from Manchester City to the Isar as “unlikely”. “It’s about amounts that are insane,” said the president of Bavaria. British media reports, according to which City is said to have rejected an initial offer of 80 million euros, denied Rummenigge, however, recently.
The Munich team are also still interested in Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea FC. In the winter, the FCB failed with an offer for the English international to veto the Blues, although the player had already asked for clearance.
A new attempt was to follow in summer, but the 18-year-old tore his Achilles tendon at the end of April. Meanwhile, according to information from SOCCERSCORE and Goal, the Blues Hudson-Odoi managers have convinced Hudson-Odoi of a contract extension at greatly improved conditions. The youngster will earn 5.9 million euros in the future and sign a new five-year contract.
In addition to Hudson-Odoi and Sane, international Timo Werner will also be a transfer option for FC Bayern this summer. Sport Bild had already reported in February about an agreement between consultant Karl-Heinz Förster and the club. However, both the Leipzig and Munich sides had made it clear that there was no decision in the Werner case.
In recent months, Werner has rejected offers from RB Leipzig to extend its contract. By 2020, the 23-year-old would be available for free. A scenario that Leipzig would like to avoid.
“If he says he doesn’t want to extend, we want to talk to his consultant about what an exit scenario could look like,” RB CEO Oliver Mintzlaff recently explained.
