No BVB offer for Götze: Less money or goodbye?

Bundesliga: No BVB offer for Götze: Less money or goodbye?

Mario Götzes contract extension at BVB is still pending. Sebastian Kehl criticises his own team and Ömer Toprak moves within the Bundesliga.

Here are the news and rumours about Borussia Dortmund.

As Bild am Sonntag reports, BVB Mario Götze has not yet submitted a concrete offer to extend the contract, which expires in summer 2020. And should Götze receive another, he would probably have to reckon with significant salary losses.

The 2014 world champion currently earns around ten million euros a year, and his salary is likely to shrink to eight million in the future. Whether Götze will wear the black and yellow jersey beyond the next summer is questionable.

Currently he is only second choice for coach Lucien Favre. In the Supercup against FC Bayern (2:0) as well as in the DFB Cup match against KFC Uerdingen (2:0) Götze sat on the bench and had to watch his opponent Paco Alcacer score goals.

In the starting eleven Götze was only in the test game against Prussia Münster on Saturday. There he scored a double-pack shortly before the end and sealed the 4-0 final score. A clear result, which nevertheless did not necessarily create a good atmosphere in the BVB camp. Especially Sebastian Kehl was critical about the appearance of the players.

“I didn’t like a few things. Today it was important that one or the other shows up. There could have been more,” reminded the head of the license player department: “To impose yourself, to leave an impression, more has to come.”

After the cup match on Friday evening, Favre had a famous B-team against Münster. In addition to Götze, Bruun Larsen, Julian Brandt, Mahmoud Dahoud and Dan-Axel Zagadou were also present.

For a long time there has been rumour about an exit, but now it’s official: Ömer Toprak is moving to SV Werder Bremen. The defender will initially join the North Germans on loan for one year, after which, according to Werder, there will “with high probability” be a firm commitment.

Toprak, which would then cost around five million euros to replace it, has so far played in 227 Bundesliga matches for BVB, Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg. In Dortmund he was never able to assert himself as the undisputed regular.
