All around FC Bayern the impressions from the impressive success in the top match against Borussia Dortmund are still being processed. For Lothar Matthäus, for example, the coach was the big winner. From England there is a wild rumour about Ilkay Gündogan and also the cup semi-final in Bremen now has a fixed date.
Niko Kovac could not fully enjoy the 5-0 victory of FC Bayern in the top match against BVB. In the press conference after the match, the coach of the record champion complained about the media coverage and that there was hardly anything that could be done right for Bundesliga coaches, regardless of the outcome of a match.
So maybe the words of Sky expert Lothar Matthäus will delight him. He called Kovac the “big winner” of the top game. In his column Matthäus explained that the Croatian had shown “that despite the difficult circumstances this season he is an excellent coach”.
If it goes to Matthew, then “the Bavarians have now licked blood again, and if they keep their form, then they get the double”.
In order to win the double, the Bavarians must first pass the strong SV Werder Bremen. And twice more. While Werder travels to Munich in the league on April 20, the following week he will travel to the north in the cup semi-final.
The DFB announced on Tuesday morning that the match will take place in the Weserstadion on Wednesday, 24 April. The encounter will be shown both on ARD and Sky.
Hang on, it’s going wild! According to English media reports, FC Bayern is interested in a commitment from Ilkay Gündogan. According to the Mirror, a transfer would already be possible this summer.
The national player has a current contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2020. If the citizens do not renew the 28-year-old’s contract, they would have to sell it during the summer transfer period in order to be able to generate a redemption.
The idea could make sense for different reasons. On the one hand, Gündogan is a high quality player who could be sent onto the field at any time without hesitation. On the other hand the future of James Rodriguez is still unclear after the end of his loan this summer.
Apropos James: According to Spanish media reports he has had the Spanish passport since Monday. Is this a sign of a return to the peninsula?
According to reports by Marca and AS, this is currently not an option. The papers want to know that the royals have no interest in the Colombian’s return. This may have something to do with James’ first collaboration with coach Zinedine Zidane, who has returned to Real. Under Zidane, the 27-year-old hardly got a chance.
Either way FC Bayern has the last word regarding the future of the player. A commitment, however, would cost the record champion a whopping 42 million euros.
