Eintracht Frankfurt’s sports executive Fredi Bobic has criticized FC Bayern Munich before the European League semi-final against FC Chelsea. The record champion had apparently only feigned his criticism of the planned Club World Championships.
“One gets the impression that the international football elite wants to set itself apart,” the world quotes a worried Bobic: “We from the clubs in the second row are not asked much if the associations decide in back rooms.
Bobic is targeting the latest plans for a major club world championship. FC Bayern’s behaviour met with little understanding on his part. First the record champion protested against the idea, before Uli Hoeneß welcomed the decision. “Obviously the Bavarians liked the idea from the start and only pretended to be against it.”
Bobic is of the opinion that the concept of a league in which only top international teams compete against each other is not sustainable, because the fans are more likely to be convinced by the national duels of the traditional clubs. In a European super league, “in the beginning the big ones would be the winners”. “But in the end we win, because Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Mainz 05 will always interest the fans more than Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich”.
But this was not the only side blow Bobic took to the south. In his opinion the “management of FC Bayern made some mistakes”. However, the record champion could afford this due to his exceptional economic position.
Bobic therefore doesn’t think that there are any chances for a championship with Eintracht. “They won’t make the tip any smaller,” he suspects. “The Bavarians can’t make so many mistakes that we end up in front of them.”
