The 1st FC Nuremberg said goodbye to the Bundesliga with a bitter bankruptcy. The relegated team was defeated 1:5 (0:2) by SC Freiburg on the last matchday. Marco Terrazzino (7th), Luca Waldschmidt (34th), Vincenzo Grifo (61st) and Nils Petersen (54th/56th) scored for the SC who had not won eight games in a row before. Eduard Löwen was successful for the club (69.).
Even before the match, FCN had found a new coach for the coming second division season. “We’ve reached an agreement with the coach,” said sports director Robert Palikuca at Sky. Palikuca did not want to betray those who will stand on the sidelines in the future. The trainer will be presented on Sunday.
The top candidate is the Austrian Damir Canadi from the Greek first division team Atrimotos Athens. Peter Hermann is the future sports director of the nine-time champion. The 67-year-old is currently an assistant at Bayern Munich. “I’d be happy if he worked another year or two,” Palikuca said.
For Boris Schommers, the Freiburg match was his last game as FCN coach. The 40-year-old had temporarily taken over the club in February as successor to the dismissed Michael Köllner, but could not prevent the ninth relegation of the traditional Franconian club.
The 24,000 spectators in the sold-out Schwarzwaldstadion did not have to wait long for the SC lead. Terrazzino scored after an individual performance for the Freiburgers. In the 21st minute the guests missed the chance to equalize. Patrick Erras’s header landed next to the goal of Freiburg’s substitutekeeper Mark Flekken, who was in the box for Alexander Schwolow.
