Without much notice, Kevin Danso surprisingly switched at the very last minute from FC Augsburg to FC Southampton on loan. Now FCA coach Martin Schmidt talks about the transfer.
Kevin Danso’s change to FC Southampton turned out to be the biggest surprise for Austria on Deadline Day. The Transer is also remarkable in that his old employer already lost Martin Hinteregger, an absolute top performer for central defence. Although Marek Souchy and Reece Oxford have already joined the team, Danso performed very well in spring – not only in Augsburg, but also in the jersey of the Austrian national team. Therefore, it was only recently extended until 2024.
Now everything was different. At a press conference, Coach Martin Schmidt said benevolently about Danso’s change: “We don’t want to spoil his path.” The fact that Danso was accommodated during the change also shows the quick negotiations between the clubs. After all, sports director Stefan Reuter is known to be a tough negotiating partner, as the Hinteregger transfer has shown.
Coach Schmidt remains optimistic: “We are well positioned and can absorb this in sports.” It is said that more players will come: “We’ll keep our eyes open, even in this position. The transfer time is still running.”
Kevin Danso moves to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s club to complement the central defence. The player is borrowed for the time being, but according to the English media there is the possibility of a purchase option.
