Junior national goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has recently been associated with a transfer to FC Bayern Munich on several occasions. The keeper of FC Schalke 04 doesn’t want to know about this at the moment.
“So far, I’m not worried about that. I’m here at U21 first. I want to play the tournament in peace, would like to play also gladly. That’s my full focus,” explained Nübel at Sky.
He is currently preparing for the U21 European Championship with the DFB and was appointed to the final squad by coach Stefan Kuntz. There is speculation about his medium-term future, among other things, because his contract with Schalke expires in 2020.
However, Nübel did not want to hide his disappointment that an offer for an extension of the working paper had been missing for a long time. “I made a few games last year, but nothing came,” says Nübel.
He had already said something similar in the Sport Bild a few days ago, when he said: “As Schalke 04 I would certainly have acted differently, but I don’t know the strategy of the club. For this reason it is pointless to think about it.”
The 22-year-old moved from SC Paderborn to Schalke in 2015. There he first played a reserve role until he was declared number one among the royal blues last season after Domenico Tedesco’s demoting of his opponent Ralf Fährmann. In the past season, Nübel played 18 games and was left five times without a goal.
