Bundesliga: BVB: Paco Alcacer doesn't want to be Joker anymore

Although Paco Alcacer was a particularly prominent joker at Borussia Dortmund last season, the Spaniard has now made it clear that he is reluctant to play this role at BVB.

“I don’t like sitting on the bench because I’m a very ambitious person,” said Alcacer, who after his first year on loan from the BVB for 21 million euros was firmly committed, in an interview with Sky Sport.

In addition, the former Barca striker described his emotional state when he’s not in the starting eleven: “I’m a cheerful, funny person, but when I’m sitting on the bench, I don’t like anything anymore, then I’m a complicated guy, which I don’t like myself.”

Alcacer was only in the starting eleven in 15 out of 32 games last season and scored twelve of his 18 Bundesliga goals as a wild card. With his tenth Joker goal on the 16th matchday at the 1:2 defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf, he broke the Bundesliga record of Nils Petersen, who had previously scored nine goals in one season as a substitute.

The fact that he seldom played for 90 minutes was also due to the fact that the 25-year-old had “not played three games in a row for almost two years,” said Alcacer, who had “worked incredibly hard” during the summer break not to miss any more games.

Alcacer is “satisfied” with his goal yield despite the many injury-related setbacks, but the centre forward is still struggling with the missed championship, which he “very often” thought about.

“We were this close to winning a big title and it was relatively easy. Football has its moods and we didn’t make it,” said Alcacer, who also wanted to leave no doubt about the Dortmund team’s goal for the season: “I’m trying to score goals to help us climb one more place in the table.
